What is microneedling?
Microneedling uses sterile, fine needles at controlled depths to create microscopic, controlled injury that stimulates collagen. It reduces the appearance of scars, large pores and wrinkles, for smoother, firmer, brighter skin.
We offer more than one type, and your plan is matched to your skin:
- Microneedling with topical exosomes: standard microneedling paired with a topical exosome product.
- Radiofrequency microneedling: microneedling combined with radiofrequency energy.
Microneedling is performed by Dr. Guo’s clinical team under his medical direction, using careful, sterile technique to keep the risk of scarring and infection low.
Who is it for?
Microneedling is suitable for most people and most skin tones and skin types; suitability is assessed individually. It can be a suitable option for darker skin, as it generally carries a lower risk of pigment change than many lasers.
People with keloid issues or eczema should avoid this treatment.
Procedure and recovery
- Time: usually no more than 10 to 20 minutes.
- Recovery: depending on the extent of treatment, recovery may take a few weeks.
- Side effects: common reactions include redness, mild swelling, sensitivity and some discomfort; others are possible.
Results
- Skin usually looks clearer and tighter after 1 to 2 weeks, once it has healed, and improvement continues over time.
- Improvement continues over the next 1–2 months as collagen production increases.
- Best results usually require 4 to 6 treatments.
- Results may last around 3 to 5 months, depending on how you care for your skin and protect it from the sun; the timing of further treatments is decided at follow-up.

What is microneedling?
Microneedling uses fine, sterile needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin at specific depths. This triggers the skin's natural healing response and stimulates collagen production, leading to smoother, firmer skin.
Who performs microneedling at Rejuvenation Calgary North?
Microneedling at Rejuvenation Calgary North is performed by Dr. Guo’s clinical team, working under his medical direction. Dr. Guo is a double board-certified dermatologist (Canada and the United States) and fellowship trained Mohs surgeon.
What does microneedling treat?
Microneedling is used to improve acne scars and other scars, enlarged pores, fine lines and wrinkles, and uneven skin texture.
How many microneedling treatments will I need?
Best results usually require 4 to 6 treatments. Skin typically looks clearer and tighter 1 to 2 weeks after a session, with continued improvement over the following 1 to 2 months as new collagen forms.
Is there downtime after microneedling?
Redness, mild swelling and sensitivity are common for the first few days. You will be given aftercare instructions, including gentle skincare and sun protection while the skin heals.
Is microneedling safe for darker skin tones?
Microneedling is suitable for most skin tones and skin types. Because standard microneedling does not rely on heat or light, it generally carries a lower risk of pigmentation changes than many laser treatments. It is not recommended for people prone to keloid scarring or with eczema in the treatment area.
Does microneedling hurt?
A numbing cream is usually applied first, so most people feel only mild discomfort. The skin can feel warm and tender for a day or two afterwards.
When will I see results from microneedling?
Skin usually looks clearer and tighter after 1 to 2 weeks, once it has healed, and improvement continues over the following 1 to 2 months as new collagen forms.
How long do microneedling results last?
Results may last around 3 to 5 months, depending on how you care for your skin and protect it from the sun; the timing of further treatments is decided at follow-up.
