How Long Does Botox Last?

For most people, the effect of Botox lasts about three to four months. How quickly it starts working, and how long it holds, depends on the area treated, the dose and your own muscles.

What to expect from a Botox treatment

When does Botox start working?

Botox does not work instantly. Most people start to notice softening of their lines within a few days, and the full effect is usually visible at about two weeks. This is why a follow-up, when one is needed, is generally timed around the two-week mark rather than earlier.

How long do results last?

On average, results last three to four months. As the effect wears off, muscle movement returns gradually and lines slowly reappear. They do not come back worse than before.

What affects how long Botox lasts?

  • The area treated: stronger muscles, such as those between the eyebrows, can behave differently from finer muscles around the eyes.
  • The dose: very low doses tend to wear off sooner. The right dose balances a natural look with a result that lasts.
  • Your muscles and metabolism: people with stronger facial muscles, or who are very expressive, may find the effect fades a little faster.
  • How regularly you treat: some people who treat consistently find they can go slightly longer between visits over time.

How often should I have Botox?

Many patients return every three to four months. It is reasonable to wait until movement has started to return, and there is no need to treat on a fixed schedule if you are still happy with the result.

Getting a result that looks natural

How Botox looks, and how long it lasts, depends on an accurate assessment of your facial anatomy and on precise placement.
